Francis Mervin Jackson, passed from this life on October 15, 2018 at Citizen Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was 98 years of age. Mervin was born on January 10, 1920, to the late James William and Mary Oma Jackson. He was thirteen of fourteen children reared in St. Mary's County, Maryland. He attended the Hermansville School until the 8th grade, when he left to help support his family.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith at St. Nicholas Parish in St. Mary's County. After moving to Washington D.C. he worshipped at Incarnation and Holy Name Churches. In 1941 he married the late Marie Shine, from this union a daughter Jean Karren Gaymon was born. After divorcing Marie in 1962, he married the late Jessie Briggs, there were no children from this union.
Mervin's career of federal service began in August 1941 when he accepted a position at the Washington Navy Yard. From June 1944 he served in the U.S. Navy until he was honorably discharged in April 1946 and returned to civilian service at the U.S. Navy Gun Factory. After many promotions and awards, and thirty-six years of combined military and civilian service with the United States Government, he retired August 12, 1977.
He is survived by his daughter, Jean Karren Gaymon and her husband Thomas Gaymon. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, LaVey Johnson, (James) Warren Tuckson, (Francesca) Paul Tuckson; 4 great grandchildren, E.J., (Kay), Krista, Devin, (Priscilla) Sierra; 3 great grandchildren, Tre, Brie, Jason and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 3-5 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike Frederick, MD 21702.
Military Honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, date and time to be announced.
