Mr. Francis "Ralph" Ertle, 97, of Frederick, MD passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Gladys Ertle for 63 years.
Born December 31, 1916 in Trenton, NJ, he was the son of the late John and Julia Buscke Ertle.
Ralph proudly served his country in the United States Army with the 29th Infantry Division in Northern France, Rhineland Central Europe and Southern Philippines (Liberation). He fought at the Utah Beach invasion on D-Day. A member of the Trenton Seventh-day Adventist Church, Ralph was an avid collector of American Indian artifacts and memorabilia. He made many lifelong friends through the collection and trading of antique guns. Ralph was active throughout his life and enjoyed roller-skating, hiking and kayaking well into his 90s. The Will Rogers quote “I never met a man I didn’t like” was true of Ralph - as he was a friend to everyone he met. He will be fondly remembered, and missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.
He is survived by his daughter Carole I. Ertle Butler and husband Harold of Myersville; two granddaughters Kelly Leigh Butler Coe and husband Michael of Columbia, MD and Kristin M. Butler Horman and husband Marshall of Frederick, MD; two great-grandchildren Avery Horman and Aiden Horman.
There will be a celebration of life on Sunday, January 11, 2015 from 12-2PM, where a life sketch will be shared at 12:30PM, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
Interment will be private.
