Frances J. Starkey, a beloved wife, mother, and cherished member of the community, passed away on July 4, 2023, in Frederick, Maryland. She was born on March 3, 1924, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Frances was known for her sweet and gentle nature, always finding the good in everyone she met.
Throughout her career, Frances worked as a Sales Associate for Bon Ton until her retirement in 1985. She possessed a natural talent for providing exceptional customer service and making lasting connections with those she served. Her dedication and professionalism earned her the respect and admiration of both colleagues and customers alike.
Outside of work, Frances was an active member of the Walkersville Senior's group. She found joy in spending time with fellow seniors, forging strong friendships over shared hobbies and interests. One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards, where she showcased her skill and entertained everyone with her quick wit.
Frances had an affinity for nature's beauty and found solace in simple pleasures. She adored butterflies and took pleasure in watching them gracefully flutter about. Feeding her Mallard ducks brought warmth to her heart as she reveled in their company. Camping allowed her to embrace the great outdoors and create lasting memories surrounded by loved ones.
Frances had a sharp mind that she continuously challenged with crossword puzzles. She approached these puzzles with determination and reveled in the satisfaction of completing each one. It was through these activities that she found solace in life's little moments.
Above all else, Frances treasured time spent with family and friends. Her warm smile lit up any room she entered, bringing comfort to those around her. She genuinely cared for others, always lending a listening ear or offering words of encouragement when needed. Frances touched the hearts of many through her acts of kindness and compassion.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Home Instead and Visiting Angels for their dedicated care. A special thank you is extended to Patricia and Rosemary for their unwavering love and support of Frances during her time of need.
Frances will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, empathy, and unwavering strength.
Frances is survived by her loving daughter, Lorna Starkey, who was the apple of her eye. Lorna meant the world to Frances, and their bond was unbreakable.
In addition to her immediate family, Frances is also survived by her cousin, Richard "Dickie" Reed and family. Richard held a special place in Frances' life, and they shared many cherished memories together. The extended family includes Rhonda and Melvin Trail as well as Meghan and Stephen Spata, all of whom were touched by Frances' infectious warmth and love.
Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 65 years, Harvey Starkey. Their enduring love served as an inspiration to those around them. Together they created a lifetime of cherished memories that will be forever treasured.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 7, 2023 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 11:00am at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
The passing of Frances J. Starkey leaves a void in our lives that can never be filled. However, we find solace in the memories we shared with her and the positive impact she made on every life she touched. Frances taught us the importance of kindness, compassion, and finding joy in life's simple pleasures. May her spirit continue to inspire us all, and may she find eternal peace in the embrace of her heavenly home.
