Frances Zimmerman

Frances L. Zimmerman, 89, of Frederick, passed away peacefully at home, with her family by her side, on Thursday, January 3, 2019. She was the wife of the late Roy Eugene Zimmerman who preceded her in death in 2013. Born on May 3, 1929, in Frederick, she was the daughter of Roscoe Thomas Smith and Hazel Viola (Kolb) Smith.
Mrs. Zimmerman was a graduate of Frederick High School. Her first retirement was from C & P Telephone Company of Frederick. After her retirement, she then retired again three years ago after working part time as a switchboard operator for Fort Detrick,
She was a member of the Past Operators of Frederick, Chapter of Telephone Pioneers, American Legion Womens Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, Frederick and National Chapter of AARP. She was of the Lutheran faith and will be remembered for her singing, including on stage and the WFMD radio station. She loved eating crabs, playing cards, and going "over the river" to Charles Town Racetrack and Slots.
Mrs. Zimmerman is survived by a brother, Wilbur Rice and his wife Pastor Sandra Kay Rice, her children: Barry Eugene Zimmerman of Frederick, Robin Leah Fisher of Greencastle, PA, Jay Michael Zimmerman and wife Cynthia of Smithsburg, and Wynn Thomas Zimmerman and wife Kelly of Smithsburg; Grandchildren: Crystal Stouter, Paul Fisher, Jamie Zimmerman, Crystal Gordon, Michael Zimmerman, Taylor Zimmerman, Mason Zimmerman, Tommy Zimmerman and Joshua Zimmerman; Great Grandchildren: Brooke Wiles, Laken Stouter, Caiden Fisher and Chase Gordon and her great-great grandchildren: Gage Wiles, Paityn Akers, Sawyer Wiles and Lillian Wiles.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 11 at 11:00 am in the chapel of the funeral home. Her sister-in-law, Kay Rice, will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
