Mrs. Frances E. Horton, 91, of Frederick died on Saturday, September 11, 2010, at Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy. She was wife of the late Charles D. Driver who died in 1972, and the late Charles R. Horton who died in 1990.
Born on July 24, 1919, in Florence, MD, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary
Shipley Mayne. Mrs. Horton was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in July 1968 and belonged to the Frederick West Congregation. She was a loving and giving woman who provided a home for many foster children as well as handicap adults. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, and was a wonderful cook.
Surviving are 3 children: Nancy Mason and husband Phil of Gettysburg, PA, Peggy Sue Portner and husband Charlie of Frederick, and Randy A. Driver and wife Cindy of Mt. Airy; 8 grandchildren: Robin, Kathy, Doug, Chris, Cindy, April, Terry and Tony; 12 great grandchildren: Kenny, Heather, Maria, Mandy, Samantha, Amanda, Nicholas, Morgan, Rhiannon, Sierra, Chris, and Cheyenne; 6 great-great grandchildren: Johnny, Chris, Jordan, Elizabeth, Jason and Alonah; 2 brothers: Joe Mayne and Gilbert Mayne; 2 sisters: Louise Justice and Mary Etta Bailey and husband Junior. Mrs. Horton was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Bill Mayne, Pete Mayne, Ralph Mayne and Bobby Mayne and a sister, Dot Smith.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM on Wednesday, September 15, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick where services will begin at 11:00 AM.
A private interment will take place at Poplar Springs Cemetery in Mt. Airy.
