Mrs. Frances M. Hackett, 92, of Frederick, died Wednesday, July 25, at her home. She was the wife of Sherwood M. Hackett, who predeceased her on October 24, 2009. They were married for more than 66 years.
Born May 30, 1920, in Trenton, Tenn., Frances was the daughter of Rollie and Lucy McCoy. She worked in administrative positions with various governmental agencies in Washington D.C., and also at the National Institutes of Health clinical center. In later years, she provided secretarial support for her husband in his law practice.
Frances was active in civic and cultural endeavors in both the Damascus and Frederick communities, including volunteering with Girl Scouts, local hospital auxiliaries, and the First Baptist Church of Damascus. She also served for many years as Membership Secretary of Frederick Community Concert Association.
Friends and family knew Frances as a woman with many creative talents. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, furniture upholstering, millenary crafting, rug braiding, and architectural design, among other things. Her interests included geography, history, politics, medicine, religion, and current events.
With her welcoming smile, clever sense of humor, and natural wisdom, Frances was a constant source of support and encouragement for her family. She maintained a youthful spirit and enjoyed interacting with friends and family of all ages.
Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Buchen, and Cindy Green and husband, Bill, all of Frederick; five grandchildren, Mark Buchen and wife, Julia, of Leesburg, Va., Chad Buchen and wife, Danielle, of Rosemont, Daniel Green and wife, Heather, Lindsay Seebach, and Allison Green, all of Frederick; six great-grandchildren: Grant and Adam Buchen, Elizabeth and Tyler Seebach, and Cadence and Branson Buchen. Frances was preceded in death by one sister, Kathleen McCoy.
The family will receive friends from 11 to a.m. to the time of services at 1:30 p.m., on Friday, July 27, at Stauffer Family Services, 1201 N. Market St., formerly the Robert E. Dailey Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Bearers will be grandsons, Mark, Chad, and Daniel, granddaughters, Lindsay, and Allison, and nephew Robert Snow.
