Mrs. Foye A. Barnard, 93, a resident of Sunrise of Frederick, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at her residence. She was the wife of George L. Barnard, her husband of 74 years.

Born on September 8, 1922, in Montezuma, GA she was the daughter of the late Judson and Nannie Murdoch Smith. Foye met her husband George during WWII in Norfolk, Virginia and after a six month courtship, they married. Mrs. Barnard was a long time resident of Rockville before retiring to New Market. She and her husband lived in Littlestown, PA before returning to New Market. Mrs. Barnard was a secretary for the Shaffer and Rogers Law firm of Rockville for many years and retired while working for the City of Rockville. She enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, sewing, traveling and the spending time at the beach with friends and family. Mrs. Barnard remained very active during retirement taking Tai Chi and learning Spanish well enough to teach at the local Senior Center. A great cook, Foye was known for her crab cakes and her strawberry shortcake dessert. She had many wonderful friends throughout her life and was dearly loved by her caregivers at Sunrise Living of Frederick and the Visiting Angels of Frederick.

Surviving in addition to her husband are sons: Richard L Barnard of Vermont and David M. Barnard and wife Mary Louise of Ijamsville; a daughter, Susan M Barnard-Phillips of New Market and fiancé Michael Ellsworth; her grandson, Matthew J Mollard and wife Jill Baker Mollard of Littlestown, PA; a granddaughter, Jessica L Mollard of Rockville; a great granddaughter, Marleigh I. Mollard; a great grandson, Miles A. Mollard, a nephew, Douglas Barnard and wife Josephine of New York and a niece, Leslie Barnard-Young and partner Audrey McDorman.

There are no services planned for the public for Mrs. Barnard.
