Floyd "Dukes" Dayton

Floyd "Dukes" Dayton, 86, of Fairplay, Maryland passed away after a long illness on Monday, October 4, 2010 at his home.

Born on April 24, 1924, in Tilghmanton, Maryland, he was the son of the late Clinton and Daisy (Shumaker) Dayton.

Dukes was a farmer most of his life.  He also worked as a back hoe operator at various construction company's including Blake, Earley and Semler.

He was a member of the the Fairplay Volunteer Fire Company and the District 12 Ruritan Club in Boonsboro.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Freda (Jones) Dayton; his two daughters, Carolyn Heimberger and her husband Bob and Barbara Maloy and her husband Merle, all of Tilghmanton; his grandchildren, R. Shawn and M. Shane Heimberger of Hagerstown, Tracy Caton and her husband Craig of Martinsburg, West Virginia and Merle "Bub" Maloy of Tilghmanton; and his great grandchildren, Ryan, Jeffrey, Ashlyn, Rachel, Dalton and Donovan Heimberger and Dylan Ward, all of Hagerstown, Christine Carder, Philip , Carly, Gabrielle and Brady Caton all of Martinsburg and Destiny Maloy of Pennsylvania.  He is also survived by his great great granddaughter Adrianna Lane of Martinsburg.

He was preceded in death by his sister Edna Dayton.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.  Rev. Joseph Tweed will officiate.  Burial well be held at the convenience of the family.

Friends are invited to visit beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m.
