Floyd Chester Martin of Thurmont died Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the York Hospital. He was the husband of Linda Martin.

Born May 12, 1927, in Catoctin Furnace he was the son of the late Calvin Stewart and Bessie Eichelberger Matin.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was employed for 36 years in Cancer Research at Fort Detrick retiring in 1983 and then worked 10 years for the Frederick County Public Schools. He was a lifetime member of Edwin C. Creeger American Legion Post 168 Thurmont. He was also a member of the Gettysburg Moose #1526. He enjoyed working outdoors, fishing and shopping.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a son Jerry Martin and wife Vivian of Rocky Ridge and a daughter Pam Seabaugh and husband Kent of Emmitsburg. He is also survived by two stepsons Wayne David Elder of Shippensburg and Richard Elder and wife Cindy of Hanover, PA; one grandson Chad McNair of Thurmont and 3 step grandchildren Bishop, Logan and Jeremy Elder; brother Edwin Martin of Largo, FL.

He is preceded in death by a brother William Martin and a sister Rita Shuff.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont on Monday, November 21, 2011 from 7-9PM where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 22 at 11AM. Rev. Stephanie Hixon will officiate.

Interment will follow at the Blue Ridge Cemetery.
