Florence Isabella “Flo” Compher Thompson, formally of Brunswick, went to be with her Lord Thursday, October 18, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village in Hagerstown.
Born September 5, 1915, in Lovettsville, Va, she was the daughter of Charles Elbert and Buda Harrison Compher.
Flo was the oldest member of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church in Lovettsville and the Ladies of the Moose. She worked at the Brunswick umbrella factory in 1941, then Price Electric in Frederick and Frederick Airpax until she retired. Following retirement she was a volunteer driver for the Frederick County Senior Services delivering lunches to shut-ins in Brunswick. She loved traveling on bus trips and also visited Hawaii twice. A devoted fan of the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Orioles she never missed watching the games on TV.
She is survived by one daughter Patricia Deener and husband Sam of Falling Waters, WV, 7 granddaughters, Carey Brewer and husband Russell of Wilmington, NC., Sandra Southerly and husband Laney of Ft. Pierce, FL., Darlene Spangler and husband Paul of Smithsburg., Judy Kline and husband Tom of Dillsburg, Pa., Lori Mallor and husband Bob of Virginia, Brenda Mentzer and husband Mike of Kernesville, and Linda Thompson of Hagerstown. 2 step grandchildren Mary Lou Magaha and Ginny Payne of Taneytown, 1 grandsons Charles Thompson Jr. of Funkstown and one step grandson Butch Payne of New Market. She has many great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Thompson, her only son Charles Richard Thompson, and one grandson Thomas Richard Thompson, four brothers Charles Compher, Claude Compher, George Compher, John Compher and a life time friend, Raymond Glen “Casey“ Wynkoop. She is survived by one sister Evelyn Compher Donovan of Frederick. She will be remembered by two dear friends Georgie Ridgeway and Wilma Deener.
Visitation will be held on Monday October 22, 2012 from 6-8pm at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 North Maple Avenue, Brunswick where funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday October 23, 2012 in the funeral home. Pastor Chad Brewer, and deacon Rusty Brewer will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Lovettsville.
