F. Calvin Leatherman

April 8, 1942 — February 24, 2015

F. Calvin Leatherman, 72, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at his home with his family by his side.

Born on April 8, 1942, in Middletown, Maryland, he was the son of the late R. Glenn and Dessie D. (Koogle) Leatherman.

Calvin was a veteran of the United States Army.

In  his early years, was employed as an electrician with Grossnickle Electric in Middletown.  He retired in 2004 after 35 years from Shepherd University, where he was the Supervisor of the Maintenance Department.

Calvin was a member of the South Mountain Rod and Gun Club in Smithsburg since 1984, having served as a Director from 1992 to 1997, and he was the President from 1998 until 2014.  He was also a member of the Improved Order of Redmen Tribe 84 in Williamsport, Maryland, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 120 in Martinsburg, West Virginia, and the Sharpsburg American Legion Antietam Post 236.  He was of the Lutheran Faith.

Calvin was dedicated to his membership with the Rod and Gun Club, and he loved to spend time outdoors, especially gardening.  He also enjoyed cooking.

He is survived by his devoted, faithful and loving companion, Nancy J. Smith of Boonsboro, and her children, Barb Warrenfeltz and husband Tim of Fairplay, Maryland, Bill Smith and wife Trudy of Boonsboro, and Randy Smith and wife Holly of Falling Waters, West Virginia; one sister, Glenna V. Moser and husband Gary of Middletown, Maryland; a niece, Fonda (Draper) Gormer and husband Jon of Myersville, Maryland; four nephews, Jerry Draper and wife Cindy of Smithsburg, Jason Moser and wife Angela of Middletown, Jeffrey Moser and friend Michelle of Frederick, and Joseph Moser and wife Victoria of York, Pennsylvania; and his special cousin, Dottie Etzler of Walkersville, Maryland.  He is also survived by many other cousins, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Kate Draper.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.  Rev. Randy Reid will officiate.  Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Middletown.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015 at the funeral home.
