Evelyn Joann Zimmerman (Stuart)
October 18, 1944 - December 12, 2024
Evelyn Joann Badalamenti Zimmerman passed away in Hospice care at Homewood Assisted Living due to Pancreatic Cancer.
Evelyn was a dedicated educator retiring after 30 plus years from Frederick County Public Schools. She taught Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and was a Reading Specialist along with being selected to pilot one of the first 6 Kindergartens for Frederick County Public Schools. Over the years, Evelyn influenced and mentored over 30 student teachers in her classrooms, later supervising students for Hood College and Mount Saint Mary’s University. She received the Agnes Myer Award presented by Hood College and FCPS for having the most influential impact on students.
After retirement Evelyn served the Community Foundation of Frederick by reading and selecting Education Scholarships. She was also a 10-year member of Thurmont Lions Club working on numerous literacy projects, and a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in downtown Frederick.
But the highlight of her life was her family; son Michael Zimmerman (Kim) and two granddaughters, Alyssa Zimmerman Piliero (Andrew) and Holly Zimmerman. The Piliero’s are expecting their first baby in April, thus making Evelyn a Great-Grandmother.
Evelyn was the daughter of Joseph and Eva Badalamenti. Born in LaPlata, MD and raised in St. Mary’s County, MD where she graduated from St. Mary’s Academy High School and earned a BA in Early Childhood Education from Towson University. She never stopped learning as she continued her higher education, thus earning a Masters+30 as a Reading Specialist from Hood College.
Evelyn was twice married; 45 years to Richard Poole Zimmerman (deceased) and 10 years currently to Timothy S Stuart. She is additionally survived by her younger sister, Rose Arterberry of Godfrey, IL including 3 nieces Lisa Mancewicz (Mark), Amy Elsbuy (Tony), Julie Lombardi (Mike) and numerous great grandnieces and nephews; sister-in-law Sandra Carlotti Zimmerman; Tim’s son Scott Stuart (Sara), Tim’s brother’s Harvey Stuart (Sue) and Larry Stuart.
She would like to leave you a quote she repeated many times to her students: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”- Dr. Seuss. She is encouraging donations be made to SHIP of Frederick County. www.shipfrederick.com/donate
