Mrs. Eva M. Kifer, 88 of Thurmont, MD, died Thursday, July 23, 2009 at St. Catherine's Nursing Center in Emmitsburg, MD.

She was born November 5, 1920 in Thurmont, MD, the daughter of the late Howard J. And Edith Dewees Martin.

Eva graduated from Thurmont High School in 1937 and was proud to have been a member of the championship women's basketball team. Following graduation from Thompson Business College in York, PA in 1938, she worked at The Clarion Newspaper (Catoctin Enterprise) in Thurmont, MD.
On September 24, 1939, she married her husband of fifty-two-years, Victor Kifer. While living in Thurmont with her family, she was active in the Thurmont Methodist Church and Frederick County Homemakers Association. She was a member of the first Board of Directors of the Thurmont Public Library in 1956.

In 1976, she and her husband relocated to Virginia Beach, VA where she continued her interest in reading and education, retiring from the Virginia Beach City School System in 1992 at the age of 72. She was also a member of Baylake United Methodist Church and active in the United Methodist Women there. In her later years she returned to Frederick County and was a resident of Country Meadows and most recently St. Catherine's Nursing Home.

She will be missed and always remain in the hearts of her daughters, Sandra Moser and husband Jim of Thurmont, MD and Sharon McAtee and husband, Willy of McCall, Idaho and niece Marilyn Spade Riggan of Braddick Heights, MD who was like a daughter to her.

Through her life she was devoted to her family and extremely proud of her nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont, MD on Saturday, July 25, from 7 - 9:00 p.m

Services: Services will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, July 26, at 2:00 p.m. With Rev. Gary Morgan officiating.
Interment Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Catherine's Nursing Home, 331 South Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, MD 21727 and Carroll Hospice, Inc., 292 Stover Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
