Eva Johnson

Eva Catherine (Fitzwater) Johnson of Valley Road, Knoxville, MD, passed away at Tranquility at Fredericktowne Assisted Living Home on April 20, 2013, at the age of 95 years.  She had been under the care of Carroll Hospice.

Eva was born September 11, 1917, in Nokesville, Virginia, the daughter of Jessie Marie (Manuel) and Walter Price Fitzwater.  She is survived by her cousins Connie Carlson and husband David Rohrer, Kim (Carlson) Alexander and husband Gary, and Lynn (Carlson) Nelson and husband Scott, and their families; her niece Vicki (Johnson) and husband Dr. Wayne Allgaier; nephews Jacob Johnson and wife Emmy (Zhang), and John Johnson and wife Joan (Puckett).  Also surviving are great-niece Becky (Allgaier) Higgins and husband David, great-nephews: David and wife Alyssa Allgaier, Steven and wife Elinn Allgaier, Kevin and wife Lauren Allgaier, Andrew and wife Geralyn Allgaier, and Tina (Munford) Allgaier; and extended family which includes 25 great-great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by several maternal cousins.  She will also be fondly remembered by her friend, Frances Smith.
She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, John M. Johnson, on April 19, 1995, and by her great-nephew Jonathan Allgaier who passed away 7 months ago.

In the 1940s, her mother owned the house that is now the Comus Inn, where they boarded children during the week while their parents worked in Washington, D.C.  Later, she helped her mother run a boarding house in the District, where most of her mother’s brothers resided while working, and where she met her husband.

She worked as a bookkeeper for the National Wildlife Federation in Washington, D.C., for 17 years and later as a shipping expediter at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD.

She enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends and tending her flower and vegetable gardens.  In her later years, she developed the talent of painting, especially outdoor scenes and birds, with great attention to detail, producing very life-like paintings.

In lieu of a memorial service, a private family burial service will be held at the Nokesville Cemetery at a later date.
