Eula (Huffer) Swain, 89, a resident of Homewood Retirement Center in Williamsport, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, May 23, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on December 17, 1924, in Boonsboro, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Alfred C. and Otilia (Pearce) Huffer, Sr.
Eula graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1942 and the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in 1946 with a Bachelor of Music Education. She attended the College of William and Mary and the Columbia Business College. She taught music at South Potomac Junior High in Hagerstown, Maryland and private piano students. She was also a Certified Professional Secretary and retired from the Potomac Edison Personnel Department.
She was a member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church in Boonsboro and a former member of the Williamsport Library Board, Shenandoah University Alumni Board, and the Hager Chamber of International Association of Administrative Professionals.
Eula is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Howard Marcellus (Mark) Swain of Williamsport; a daughter, Marcia Swain of Williamsport; and a brother, Alfred C. Huffer, Jr., of Delmar, Maryland; her grandchildren, Nicholas Moser and his wife, Cherie of Fairplay, Maryland and Julie (Moser) Hebig and her husband, David of Allentown, Pennsylvania; and great-grandchildren, Colson and Connor Hebig, and Hanna and Emily Moser. She is also survived by her nephew, Andreas Huffer of Greencastle, Pennsylvania and her niece, Lisa (Huffer) Harbaugh and her husband, Gregory of Holidaysburg, Pennsylvania; and great nephew, Zachary Harbaugh.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Doris (Huffer) Hutton.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland. Eula's nephew-in-law, Rev. Gregory Harbaugh will officiate. Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Sharpsburg, Maryland.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.
