Eugene M. Lawson, Sr.

October 2, 1918 — June 27, 2009


Mr. Eugene M. Lawson, Sr., age 90 of Hagerstown, MD and formerly of Frederick, MD passed away suddenly after a short illness on Saturday June 27, at the Washington County Hospital.

Mr. Lawson was born on October 2, 1918 in Big Stone Gap, VA coincidentally on his mother's birthday.

Mr. Lawson was the son of the late William and Orleana Lawson.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years Betty L. (Sherald) Lawson; a son Eugene M. Lawson, Jr. And his partner, Scott Sterl, of McLean, VA; two daughters Juanita Feaster and her husband, Terry, of Burlington, NC; Debra Smelser and her husband, Mark, of Frederick, MD; one stepson Robert Sherald and his wife, Terry, of Waynesboro, PA.

He is predeceased by 12 siblings and one stepson Charles A. Sherald, Jr. Mr. Lawson leaves behind seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lawson was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II and later reenlisted and served during the Korean and Vietnam Campaigns. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for 26 1/2 years and retired in 1969 from Fort Detrick, MD.

After working at the Frederick Memorial Hospital, as the Chief of Bacteriology, he served as the Chief Operating Officer of Hunter Labs in Bethesda, MD until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Lawson was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He and his wife spent many years traveling in their motor home and were former members of the Family Motor Coach Association and a local Good Sam Club. He and his wife spent many years snow birding the winter months in the warmth of Okeechobee, FL. In years past, he enjoyed fishing with his family on the Chesapeake Bay on his boat the Debra Gayle , camping, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, a dearly loved and respected father and grandfather, and a loyal and trustworthy friend. He will be dearly missed!


Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Tuesday, June 30, from 6 - 8:00 p.m

Services: Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 1, at 1:00 p.m. With Pastor Mark Hosler officiating.
Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the U.S.O., P. O. Box 96860, Washington, D. C. 20090-6960.
