Eugene Meyers

March 7, 1931 — March 21, 2014

Eugene Edward Meyers, 83, was born March 7, 1931 to J. Everett and Louise (Sechler) Meyers at Holdrege, Nebraska.  He passed away March 21, 2014 at his son’s family home in Ijamsville, Maryland.
He received his formal education at Wilcox, Nebraska Consolidated School and graduated with the class of 1948.  He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.  After receiving his honorable discharge from the military, he returned home to farm in the Wilcox area.
On September 13, 1953 he was united in marriage to Ruth E. Hogeland of Bloomington, Nebraska.  Four sons were born to this union, Lindsey, Mitchell and Stuart.  Baby Samuel was born at rest.
In later years he and his wife spent time in the Prescott, Arizona area where they bonded with many friends.  In 1996 they moved to Aurora Nebraska to retire and later moved to Maryland to be closer to family.
He was a member of the New Market, Maryland United Methodist Church where he served his term as a Trustee.  He also was a member of the American Legion Post 0377 at Wilcox, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, his parents, sister in law Jo Ann Richter of Aurora, Nebraska, three nephews Monte Smith of Casper Wyoming, Peter Bienhoff of Denver Colorado and Terry Richter of Aurora, Nebraska.
He is survived by his wife Ruth of 60 years, three sons and their families, Lindsey of New Market, Maryland, Mitchell and his wife Teresa of Ijamsville, Maryland, Stuart and his wife Michelle of Oswego, Illinois, five grandchildren, Justin of Blair, Nebraska, Allen, Meagan and Lauren of Ijamsville, Maryland and Alexander of Oswego, Illinois, three sisters in law, Allene Smith of Casper, Wyoming, Nancy and Lloyd Schepler of Holdrege, Nebraska, Mary Jane and Don Bienhoff of Omaha, Nebraska, one brother in law, Scott and Joan Hogeland of Benkelman, Nebraska, many nieces and nephews and extended family.
