Mr. Eugene Edward "Gene" Lakin, 68, a well-known Jefferson resident, passed away Friday, July 19, 2013 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown. He was the loving husband of 35 years to Catherine (Cathy) Williams Lakin.
Born November 5, 1944 in Frederick, he was the son of the late George W. Lakin and Catharine Arnold Lakin Martz.
Gene was a life time dairy farmer in Jefferson, and he worked for Southern States in Brunswick and Frederick. He was a member of the Jefferson United Church of Christ, the Jefferson Ruritan, the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company, and the Jefferson Grange.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Amanda C. Lancaster and husband, William, of Jefferson; Mark E. Lakin and wife, Stacy, of Jefferson; Thomas (Tom) E. Lakin and wife, Angela, of Middletown; Robin A. Vance and husband, Jack, of Big Pool; and Eugene W. Lakin of Pennsylvania; and 10 grandchildren, Amber Moberly, Kare Grace Lakin, Kelly Lancaster, Haylee Lancaster, Curtis (CJ) Lakin, Katelyn Lakin, Jenna Lakin, Ryan Lakin, Nicholas Vance, and Sam Vance.
He also is survived by a brother, George A. Lakin and wife, Donna, of Jefferson; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 22, 2013 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 North Maple Ave., Brunswick.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23 from Jefferson United Church of Christ, 3837 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson with Rev. John Shillingburg officiating.
Interment will follow in Jefferson Reformed Cemetery. Serving as pall bearers will be Jimmy Lakin, Rodney Linton, Eddie Lapole, James Earp, Derek Young and Sam Cooper.
