Ethel Virginia (Lum) Waters, 85, loving mother, grandmother, and devoted wife, died at her home at Burnside Drive in Falling Waters, West Virginia, with her family by her side on Saturday afternoon, April 2, 2011.
Born on November 4, 1925 in Mt. Lena, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late William Oscar and Virginia Elizabeth (Hammersla) Lum.
Ethel was a member of the Boonsboro Bible Church where she had been very active in her early years.
She was formerly an employee with Kresges, Manbeck's Thrift Store, and Rosens Department Store in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Ethel was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Ladies of the Improved Order of the Redmen. She was also a volunteer at Reeder's Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Maryland.
Ethel enjoyed doing puzzles, fishing, and bird watching. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Richard "Doc" Waters; three children, Rick Waters of Boonsboro, Maryland, Randy Waters and fiance', Bonnie Barr, of Dade City, Florida, and Debbie Andrews and husband, Terry, of Clear Spring, Maryland; three granddaughters, Jennifer Shingleton and husband, Stefan, of Clear Spring, Maryland, Ashley Moss and husband, Clint, of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, and Elizabeth Andrews of Clear Spring, Maryland; three great-grandchildren, Malea Shingleton, John Thomas Moss and Gehrig Moss; sister, Betty Castle and husband, John, and brother, Richard Lum and wife, Joann, all of Boonsboro, Maryland.
In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by one sister Shirley Louise Fisher and two brothers James Alvey Lum and Charles Oscar Lum.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Pastor Matt Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow at the Boonsboro Cemetery.
Friends may visit beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the funeral home where the family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
