Ethel Genevieve (Ambrose) Needy, 90, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Born on September 6, 1923, in Hagerstown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley Ambrose and Emma Elizabeth (Mullinex) Ambrose. Her husband, David Franklin Needy, Sr., preceded her in death on July 13, 2004.
Ethel was employed as a unit clerk at the Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, retiring in 1975.
She was a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church in Hagerstown and the Dixon-Troxell American Legion Post 211 Auxilliary in Funkstown, Maryland.
Ethel also served as a volunteer driver for the American Red Cross.
She is survived by her three children, David F. Needy, Jr. of Hagerstown, Dorothy E. Feigley and husband Bob of Clear Spring, and Richard L. Needy and fiancé Angie Souders, of Hagerstown; ten grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and fifteen great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Elizabeth Ambrose, Helen Spickler, Margaret Summers, Ada Shank and Emma Martin; four brothers, John, Earl, Clarence and Lawrence "Larry" Ambrose; and her daughter-in-law, Sandra Lee (Davidson) Needy.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. Dr. Kenneth Fizer, Jr. and Rev. C. Wayne Frum will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the funeral home.
