Esther Tome
January 22, 1916 — March 14, 2007
Esther Tome died March 14, 2007. She was born in Crawford County, PA in 1916, one of four children of Albert and Nancy Elizabeth Porter Martin.
She received her baccalaureate from Tarkio College, Tarkio, MO and her Ph.D. in bacteriology from Pennsylvania State University where she worked on the large-scale production of penicillin for the War Production Board.
A series of career and family moves brought her to her long-term residence in Scotia, NY where she lived until her recent relocation to Frederick, MD with her husband.
Esther is predeceased by her parents, her brother, Wilfred Martin, and sister, Arline Brown (husband: Kenneth).
She is survived by: her husband of 54 years, John M. Tome of Frederick, MD; her brother, G. Lloyd Martin (wife: Mary) of Holland, MI; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Martin Slutz of Cincinnati, OH; two daughters, Margaret Tome (husband: David Buth) of Tucson, AZ and Alice Tome (husband: Ronald Wange) of Bethesda, MD; and one grandson, Peter Tome Wange of Bethesda, MD.
She will be missed.
