Esther Lewis

Esther L. (Crist) Lewis, 79, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, May 5, 2014 at her home while surrounded by her family.

Born on December 5, 1934, in Antietam Furnace, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Arlie and Blanche (Ray) Crist.

Esther began her working career at the Federal Silk Mill in Williamsport, Maryland.  She went on the work for Maryland Ribbon in Hagerstown and then became a certified nurse's assistant and was employed at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.  She also provided in-home private care for individuals.

She was a member of the Church of God in Sharpsburg, and the American Legion Antietam Post Unit 236 Auxiliary.

Esther will be fondly remembered for her love of playing bingo and working crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her husband, Dale L. Lewis, Sr.; one son, Dale L. Lewis, Jr. and wife Peggy of Boonsboro, Maryland; one brother, George W. Crist of Sharpsburg; three grandchildren, Jill S. Waters and husband Buck of Keedysville, Maryland, JR Byrd and wife Tina of Boonsboro, and Tammy B. Wolfe and husband Mark, also of Boonsboro; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  She will also be missed by her loving dog, Buffy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Mark S. Lewis; and three brothers, Clarence and Elwoody Crist, and Butch Hawbaker.

There will be no viewing or service.
