Esther Harwood

Esther Elizabeth Harwood passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at Broadmore Senior Living, Hagerstown, MD.

Born March 21, 1922 in Weverton, MD she was the daughter of the late William Moore Himes and Martha Elizabeth Jones Himes.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jeptha E. Harwood in 1989. They were married for 47 years.

She was also preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

Esther was a 1940 graduate of Brunswick High School, Brunswick, MD. And after retiring from farming, had a career as a secretary for various businesses. She was a lifetime member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren, and after moving to Hagerstown, attended Church of the Nazarene in Hagerstown. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Hagerstown Chapter 089.

She is survived by her three children Linda Lee Moser (Bernard, dec'd), Martha Kaye May (Larry) and Stephen E. Harwood (Debbie); six grandchildren, Michele Shephard (Steve), Brian Moser (Leah), Kevin May (Deborah), Laura McElroy (Jason), Deanna Starkoski (Thomas) Scott Harwood (Julie), and twelve great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, on Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 10-11AM where a memorial service will begin at 11AM. Rev. Tom Fralin will officiate.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
