Ernest "Ernie" M. Ferguson, 90, of Keedysville, Maryland, passed from this life on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2011 at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Maryland.
Born on June 4, 1921, in Mt. Briar, Maryland, he was the son of the late Freeling and Effie L. (Smith) Ferguson. His wife, Rosie Mae (Long) Ferguson, preceded him in death in September 2004.
Mr. Ferguson was a veteran of the United States Army having served from 1942 until 1945. During his enlistment, he served at the Battle of Normandy as well as in other parts of France, Germany and Ireland.
He was an employee at Marquette Cement Manufacturing Company, retiring after 30 year of service.
Ernie had attended the Mt. Briar First Church of God and was a member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post #10 in Boonsboro and the Amvets Post #10 in Hagerstown.
He is survived by his nephew and caretakers, Thomas W. Bussard and his wife Carolyn of Sharpsburg, Maryland, and many other nieces and nephews.
Ernie is the last surviving member of his family, as in addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Grumbine, Mae Minnick, Bertha Bussard Rice, Gladys Hoffman; and six brothers, Stanford, John, Melvin, Harold, Howard, and Elmer Ferguson.
A graveside funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2011 at the Boonsboro Cemetery. Rev. Joseph Burdette will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by the Marine Corps League and Amvets Post #10 of Hagerstown.
