Mr. Ernest Leroy Sunday, 90, of Thurmont, died Saturday, October 27, 2012 at St. Catherine's Nursing Center in Emmitsburg. He was the husband of the late Shirley Irene Miller Sunday, who predeceased him on February 26, 2006.

Born July 22, 1922 in Thurmont, he was the son of the late Percy and Mazie Portner Sunday.

Mr. Sunday was a carpenter working in the field of residential construction. During his lifetime, he built three homes for his own family.

He was a member of Catoctin United Methodist Church, Thurmont American Legion and attended activities with the Thurmont Senior Center.   Ernest also enjoyed meeting with his friends at the Thurmont McDonald’s.  He enjoyed making grandfather clocks and creating cement lawn ornaments and bird baths.

He is survived by his daughter, Shiela May and her husband, Larry, of Thurmont; two grandchildren, Nichole N. "Nikki" May of Thurmont, and Nathan W. May and wife, Kellie, of Thurmont; three great-grandchildren, Stacey S. May, Faith I. May, and Grace N. May; and two sisters, Mary Kathryn Frazier (Carl)  of Walkersville, and Maxine Naugle of Thurmont.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Pauline Spoor and Betty Fair, and one brother, Bobby Sunday.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont.

Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Catoctin United Methodist Church, 7009 Kelly Store Road, Thurmont, MD 21788 with Pastor Terry Orrence and Rev. Ernest Thayil officiating.

Pall Bearers will be Nathan May, Eugene Myers, Gale Miller, David Frazier, Gary Sunday, and Robert Anders.

Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Catoctin United Methodist Church at the above address.

The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff at St. Catherine’s Nursing Center for their loving care of  "E.L".
