Mr. Ernest H. Miner,Jr., 81, of Mount Pleasant passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born February 28, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Ernest H., Sr. and Hazel Truscott Miner.
After retiring as a Science Writer for the Heart Institute at NIH in 1977, Ernie spent almost 30 years as a full-time beekeeper. A legend among local beekeepers, Ernie was one of the first people in Maryland to be certified as a Master Beekeeper. He operated Ernie’s Apiaries out of his home on Kelly Road and was a Maryland State Bee Inspector. He was active in the Maryland State Beekeeper Association. Ernie taught beekeeping locally and as far away as Egypt and Azerbaijan through the Farmer-to-Farmer Project. Bees were his passion and he never tired of his hobby-turned-career.
He is survived by his son David Miner and wife Terri of Walkersville; granddaughter Wendy Payne and husband John; granddaughter April Ness and husband Jonathan; granddaughters Natalie and Jenna Miner; six great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Beverly Kreer and his sister, Marilyn Pedigo.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville, MD on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 1-2PM where a memorial service will begin at 2 pm. Rev. Toni Fish will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Maryland Chapter, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093
