Erik Shekels

Erik Shekels, 38, of Mount Airy, passed away suddenly as the result of an automobile accident on Monday, June 4. Born on September 12, 1979, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Ronald G. Shekels and Vicky L. (Willett) Robinson.

Erik was a 1998 graduate of Catoctin High School in Thurmont, where he was a standout fullback on the football team. He attended college at Glenville State University in Glenville, WV. Erik was a welder and maintenance mechanic.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a step-mother Maria Shekels; a daughter, Lilyann Ryan Shekels; brothers: Nick Shekels and his wife Jamie, Clark Shekels; a sister: Jennifer Pendias Shekels; step-brothers: Nick Lasko and his wife Jessie and Ben Lasko; nephews: Bryce, Ty and Alexander; maternal grandfather: Rodgers Willett; paternal grandparents: Ellen Sights and Gary Shekels. He is also survived by his ex-wife and the mother of his daughter, Jennifer Yonteff Shekels as well as many other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Andrew Robinson and his maternal grandmother, Donna Willett.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 9 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Boulevard, Mt. Airy. A funeral service will immediately follow the visiting hours at 2:00 pm in the chapel of the funeral home, Rev. Paul Foss officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
