Mrs. Emily Rebecca Sixx, 82, of Rocky Ridge, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at Frederick Memorial Hospital with her loving family at her side. She was the wife of the late James Richard Sixx who died on May 22, 1974.
Born on August 18, 1930, in Rocky Ridge, she was the daughter of the late Robert E. and Kathryn E. Ogle Valentine. Mrs. Sixx was a secretary at Thurmont High School and later Catoctin High School from 1965-1995. She was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, was treasurer of the Willing Workers from 1947 until the time of her death and also served on the Church Council. Emily was Chaplain of the Rocky Ridge Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary for the last 29 years. She enjoyed playing cards and Bingo as well as cooking and baking and spending time with her family.
Surviving are three daughters: Linda Shields and husband Dale of Emmitsburg, Kathy Sixx and husband Andrew Stull of Walkersville and Bonnie Sanders and husband John of Rocky Ridge; four grandchildren: Jeremiah Shields of Emmitsburg, Travis Sanders and wife Marrie of Fairfield, PA, Rebecca Cichocki and husband Marc of Aldie, VA and Benjamin Sanders of Fairfield; a great granddaughter, Taylor Wiles of Fairfield; a sister, Betty Krom. Mrs. Sixx was preceded in death by two brothers: Rodney Valentine and Melvin Valentine
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 28, from 2-4 and 6-9 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 29, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 10043 Longs Mill Rd., Rocky Ridge, MD, with her pastor, Rev. James Russell officiating.
Interment will take place in the church cemetery.
