Elvin L. Haupt, 85, of 8022 Mountain Laurel Road, Boonsboro, Maryland, died on Tuesday, October 12, 2009 at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.
Born December 4, 1923 in Washington County, Maryland, he was the son of the late George E. and Edna Fay (Itnyre) Haupt. His wife of 55 years, Helen F. (Staley) Haupt, preceded him in death in 2003.
Mr. Haupt was an employee with the State Highway Administration, retiring in 1982 after 28 years of service. He had formerly been a member of the Mt. Lena United Methodist Church.
Elvin purchased a truck farm in the early 1950's and was known for raising strawberries and raspberries. He also was a broom maker, a trade that he had picked up from his father, and was very active in craft shows for over 20 years.
He is survived by three sons, James E. Haupt and his wife Cathy, of Damascus, Maryland, David E. Haupt and his wife Noreen of Keedysville, Maryland, and Richard A. Haupt and his wife Betty of Hagerstown, Maryland. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Elvin was preceded in death by an infant daughter and an infant son; four brothers, Carlton Haupt, Sr., and Leo, Woodrow, and Otho Haupt; and six sisters, Julia Lum, Cathleen Detrow, Inez Hurly, Mary Doyle, and Beulah and Edna Haupt.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2009 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Rev. J. Norman Mayer will officiate. Interment will follow at the Boonsboro Cemetery.
Friends may visit at the funeral home beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2009 where the family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m.
