Ellis Rhodes Sr.

Ellis Woodrow "Buck" Rhodes Sr., age 88, of Chichester, NH, and formerly of Dam #4 Road near Sharpsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at Hospice House in Concord, NH.

Born May 23, 1920 in Downsville, MD, Buck was a son of the late John Clarence and Susan Alice Wiley Rhodes.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Myrtle Elizabeth Cromer Rhodes, in 1989.

Buck had been employed as second shift supervisor at Maryland Ribbon Co. in Hagerstown, retiring after 44 years of service.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

Buck was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Temple near Hagerstown.

He was a member of Williamsport American Legion, Western Maryland Fish and Gun Club, National Rifle Association, Bassmasters and was past secretary and treasurer of Maryland Trappers Association.

Buck is survived by one daughter, Linda D. Richardson and husband Dennis of Chichester, NH; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Shelva "Jean" Milburn; two sons, Ellis W. Rhodes Jr. and Franklin D. Rhodes; five sisters and 10 brothers.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Monday at Emmanuel Baptist Temple. The Rev. Dr. Larry Aikens will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3 to 5 P.M. at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro which will open at noon.
