Elizabeth (Betty) S. Sweitzer of Urbana, MD passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 16, 2024. She was born on July 7, 1927 in Miami, FL. Betty is survived by her son Craig E. Kershow and wife Pat of Stanton, KY; her daughters Karen A. Towles and husband Ray of Pelahatchie, MS; and Carolyn E. Valanidas and husband Peter of Monrovia, MD; her grandchildren Saundra Towles, Maggie Thompson and husband Shane, Sarah Bradler and husband Chad, Seth Kershow and wife Brooklyn, Jonah Kershow, Ray Towles, Robert Towles, and Rodney Towles; and her great grandchildren Caden, Christian, Paige, Madelyn, Elin, Hannah, Brooklyn, Easton, Eviann, and Alexzandrew. Lionel A. Sweitzer, her beloved husband whose ashes have been patiently awaiting hers, preceded her in death on January 1, 2016.
Betty retired after 26 years of service with the National Bureau of Standards (NIST), as Executive Administrative Officer within the Division of Materials Science & Technology. She was also awarded the U.S. Dept. of Commerce Bronze Medal for Superior Federal Service. Betty was a loving mother and grandmother as well as a beautiful soul who would help anyone. Her radiant smile lit up any room she entered. Betty was generous and caring; always donating to causes special to her heart. She was an avid reader who enjoyed crossword puzzles. Betty loved classical music and went to the symphony often. She enjoyed visiting the beach and loved spending time with her family most of all. She was adored by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD on Sunday January 5 from 2:00-3:00pm, followed by a celebration of life at 3:00pm. Online condolences to www.staufferfuneralhome.com
