Elfleta Reeder

Elfleta Elizabeth (Shifler) Reeder, 95, of Boonsboro, MD, passed away on January 7, 2019 at Coffman Nursing Home.
Born June 6, 1923 in Wolfsville, MD, she was the only daughter of the late Shirley and Ellen Shifler. She graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1942 and married Elsworth D. Reeder that same year. After graduation, Elfleta was employed for several years at the Hagerstown Shoe Factory.
Elfleta was a devoted wife and mother and spent most of her life working long hours beside her husband on their dairy farm in Boonsboro. She was a meticulous homemaker and loved her home to have clean sparkling windows. She was known for her Montgomery pies, chocolate chip and snickerdoodle cookies which she gave to family members and community friends. Seasonally, she grew homegrown sweet corn and raised chickens for fresh eggs that were sold to friends and neighbors. When her children were raised, and the family responsibilities slowed down, she went to work for seven years at Boonsboro Elementary School where she worked in the cafeteria.
She was a very active member of her church, the Benevola UM Church, and a member of the Washington County Homemakers Club. After retirement from farming, she and her husband loved to travel with close friends.
She is survived by her three sons: Nelson and wife Cindy, Dennis and wife Nancy, Dean and Sue, all of the Boonsboro area; six grandchildren: Jesse Reeder and wife Kate, of Fallston, MD, Jason Reeder and wife Erin, of Frederick, MD, Ashley DeStefano and husband Harrison of Charleston, SC, Bryan Reeder and wife Dana of Boonsboro, MD, Jennifer Robinson and husband Jason of Inwood, WV, and Vince Iuliano of Hagerstown, MD; and one brother, James Shifler of Crowborough, England. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Allen, her husband Elsworth D. Reeder and brothers, Siebert, Charles and Woodrow Shifler.
The family will receive friends at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, MD 21713 on Thursday January 10, 2019 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A celebration of her life will be held at 2pm on Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Benevola UM Church at 11925 Benevola Church Road, Boonsboro, MD 21713. Reverend Cindy Caldwell will officiate. Interment will follow in Boonsboro Cemetery.
