Mrs. Eleanore (Rusty) James passed away suddenly from cancer on Christmas night at Frederick Memorial Hospital at the age of 81. She was the wife of the late James Lauderdale James.
In 1928, when her mother, Lydia Hardesty May, died from a gall bladder condition, Eleanore was placed in a Catholic orphanage in Baltimore, MD. Her Aunt Frances Hardesty Mogck adopted her and traveled to Huntingtown, MD. Eleanore was raised here, worked in her father, Fred Mogck's store, and later attended Washington College, where she graduated in 1949 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in languages. She was also a sister of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, as well as her daughter Susan.
Rusty was very active in the Westwinds Country Club ladies group in New Market, MD, for over 30 years, when the club was called Eaglehead. She was the Ladies golf group tournament chair, secretary, amongst other duties. Rusty was also active in the Normandy Lanes Ladies Bowling League, Pin ups, in Ellicott City, MD. She scored a hole in one in Bermuda, in the Governor's Lobster Pot Tournament in 1999, and received a trophy from the Governor of Bermuda.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Susan Henson, and son-in-law, William Nelson Henson, Sr. of Woodbine MD. She was predeceased by her sisters: Gladys Mogck Brown, Elizabeth M. Bowen, Virginia Lyons; and brothers: Benjamin May and Samuel May.
Rusty will be fondly remembered by her best friends, Loretta Sylvester, Pat Chaconas, and Jerry Bowers, just to name a few.
