Elbert Hughes, Sr.

Mr. Elbert E. "Pappy" Hughes, Sr., 81, of Sigel, PA, and formerly of Monrovia, died Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born August 25, 1934 in Glen Rogers, WV, he was the son of the late Jackson and Nocie (Moneyhunn) Hughes.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and worked for many years as a printer. Pappy was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved spending time at his camp in Pennsylvania. Additionally, he enjoyed fishing and dancing and was an avid Redskins fan. He also enjoyed the company of his cat, Oreo.
Pappy is survived by four children, Connie Donohue of Waldorf; Carla Tressler and husband, Martin, of Mt. Airy; Karen Gates of Urbana; and Elbert (Ernie) Hughes, Jr. and wife, Brenda, of Monrovia; six grandchildren, Valerie, Marty, Lacy, April and husband Jimmy, Nathan and wife Karen, and Angel; and two great-grandchildren, Autumn and Austin.
Pappy will be remembered by his nieces, Michele Neale-Beaubien and Lisa Broe; nephew, Michael Bodenhorn; and a special niece and nephew, Susan and Robert Larison of Arizona.
He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jessica; and his one true love, Betty.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, where a funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2.
Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.
