Elaine Mae Bowers, 88, of Frederick, Maryland passed away on Thursday, March 11 in Richmond, Virginia. She and her late husband, Richard Clay Bowers, were married almost 65 years.

Born March 7, 1922 in Brunswick, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Paul William Koogle and Viola Greene Koogle. Mrs. Bowers was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick.

She was a 1939 graduate of Brunswick High School and attended nursing school at Sibley Hospital in Washington, D.C. However, before graduation she married a young army officer and they moved to Camp Lee, Virginia. When her husband went to serve his country in Europe, Mrs. Bowers moved back to Brunswick and was a nurse at Dr. Schnauffer's clinic in Brunswick.

Mrs. Bowers worked for State Farm Insurance in the Frederick Regional Office and retired in 1984 to enjoy her family, traveling and dining out.

Surviving Mrs. Bowers are her son, Richard C. Bowers, Jr. and wife Vicki Effland Bowers of Chester, Virginia; three grandchildren, Sandra Wood, Sarah Bowers and Matthew James Bowman; and two great-grandchildren, Celia Wood and Trinity Bowman. She will also be remembered by numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bowers was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Lane Jordan.






Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Sunday, March 14th from 7:00-9:00 PM.

Services: Funeral services will be held in the Mt. Olivet Mausoleum Chapel on Monday, March 15th at 11:00AM.



Entombment will follow.
