Mrs. Edwina (Winnie) Mathias Dillon, 85, passed away on Saturday, June 18 at Lorien in Mt. Airy. Born May 5, 1926 in Washington, DC, she was the youngest and last survivor of six children of Harry L. and Catherine M. Mathias. She was the wife of Francis B. Dillon, her husband of 62 years.
Winnie was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and was devoted to her faith. She served in the Sodality in several parishes. She was also a member of the Homemakers Club in Montgomery County and enjoyed playing cards and games. She was known for her warmth, her friendliness and her unfailing sense of humor. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her children, Catherine A. Dillon, John J. Dillon (wife Jeanne), Mary R. Lynch, Lorraine E. James (husband Dave) and Paul F. Dillon (wife Lisa); grandchildren, Laura E. Secker, Brian E. Secker, Theresa K. Dillon (husband Jacob Knill), Karen M. Secker, William F. Dillon, Krista N. Dillon, Phillip A. Dillon, Colleen M. Lynch, Anna G. Lynch, Rebekah M. James, Grace E. James, Stephen D. James, Daniel A. James, Krystal D. Dillon, Caleigh A. Brice and Jessica L. Brice; great-grand daughter, Madeleine T. Hemming.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, June 22, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd. in Mt. Airy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 23, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church at Poplar Springs, 1125 St. Michael’s Rd., Mt. Airy with Rev. Michael J. Ruane as Celebrant.
Interment will be private
