Edwin Thomas, Sr.

Edwin C. Thomas, Sr., 92, of Williamsport, Maryland, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Williamsport Retirement Village.

Born on October 3, 1921, in Benevola, Maryland, he was the son of the late Claude L. and Anna E. (Reese) Thomas.  His wife of 69 years, Mildred C. (Provard) Thomas, preceded him in death in 2011.

Edwin first worked as a supervisor at Pepsi-Cola back in the 1950's.  He then worked as a shipping supervisor with Manbeck Bread Company and then started his own business, Hub City Distributor's.  He later was employed as the manager of Steward Infrared Commissary and also worked as a driver for D. M. Bowman, Inc. and as a Tanker Driver for AC&T.  In his retirement years, he owned Ed Thomas' Lawn Service, working until the age of 82.

He was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown, and had attended services at Calvary Temple in Williamsport.

Edwin is survived by two daughters, Shirley L. Bartgis of Pahrump, Nevada, and Darlene K. Snyder of Hagerstown, Maryland; and two sons, Charles Henry Thomas of Sacramento, California and Mikel L. Thomas of Clear Spring, Maryland.  He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Beverly Gilbert; one son, Edwin C. Thomas, Jr.; three sisters, Annabelle Martz, Edna Mae Moser, and Genevieve Harshman; two brothers, Claude L. Thomas, Jr., and Richard W. Thomas; and two grandchildren, Sabrina Snyder and Timothy Allen Thomas.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.  Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate.  Final resting palce ceremonies will follow at Broadfording Bible Brethren Church Cemetery in Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the funeral home.
