Colonel Edwin Walter Solek, age 102, of Mount Airy, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, October 6, 2022. 

He was born on May 13, 1920, to the late Rosalia Genevieve Hana’s Solek and Piotr Charles Solek.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Rose Solek, and by his six siblings. 

Ed graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in the Horse Cavalry and later in the Armored Tank Division. Ed led troops in World War ll operations in Africa, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland. Throughout Colonel Solek’s distinguished military career he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon with three Battle Stars and the Croix de Guerre.

Ed loved to spend time with his beloved family and pets. He was an avid animal lover, particularly concerned over the welfare of dogs and horses. 

He is survived by his son, Gregory; daughter in law, Karen; grandson, Gregory Jr.; son Edwin Jr.; granddaughters Chloe and Kara; and grandson Jonas.

Military Honors and services will be rendered at Arlington National Cemetery.  Services will be announced at a later date.
