Edward {Sonny} S. Griffith, Jr.

Edward {Sonny} S. Griffith, Jr., 66, of Mt Airy, MD, died Friday, September 7, 2007 at Carroll County General Hospital.

Born on November 30, 1940 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Alice (Weber) and Edward S. Griffith, Sr. Sonny was a nursery manager for Franks Nursery and Crafts and was also a ticket taker at both the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens games.

A member of both St. Peter the Apostle in Libertytown and St. Michael's Catholic Church at Poplar Springs, Sonny was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus Council 10525 Assembly 2595 Father Michael J. McGivney.

He was a member of the Mt. Airy Kiwanis Club, the Mt. Airy Senior Center and the Mt. Airy Senior League Friday Bowling League.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Ann Kutcher Griffith, his four loving children; Eddie Griffith, III and wife Carolyn of Mt. Airy, Robin Grove and husband Kevin of Hedgesville, WV, George Griffith, of Mt. Airy and Lisa Schulze and husband Chris of Frederick, MD; known affectionately as Pop Pop to his eleven grandchildren; Ricky, Kari, Brandon, Kevin, C.J., Marshall, Tyler, Kelli, Ty, Paige, and Lydia and three great grandchildren; Alexandria, Alyssa and Lily; his two sisters, Nancy Ashwell and husband Dale of Mt. Airy and Darlene Beck and husband Mike of Joppa, MD; numerous nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his golden retriever, Pennie.

Visitation: The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd, Mt. Airy.

Services: A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Tuesday at 12:00 Noon at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Libertytown, MD with Msgr. John A. Dietzenbach as celebrant.. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
