Edward Terrell

October 1, 1923 — August 1, 2011

Dr. Edward Everett Terrell of Frederick, MD passed away at Homewood Retirement Community on
August 1, 2011. He and his wife lived in Silver Spring, MD for over 40 years before moving to Frederick.

Born on October 6, 1923 in Wilmington, Ohio he was the son of the late Edward Everett Terrell, Sr. and
Susanna McKay Terrell
.

He received his undergraduate degree from Wilmington College, a Master of Science degree from
Cornell University, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Wisconsin. He taught
Biology at Pembroke State University and Guilford College in North Carolina. He retired after 25 years of
service as a Taxonomic Botanist with the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of
Agriculture, Beltsville, MD. He continued botanical research after his retirement with the Department of
Botany at University of Maryland and as a Research Collaborator with the Smithsonian Institution,
Washington, DC
. He was a lead or contributing author for over one hundred publications in botanical
journals.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bessie Zimmerly Terrell, his son Jonathan McKay Terrell and his
wife Carla of Poolesville, MD, his daughter Susanna Terrell McGrath and her husband John of Madison,
NC, and four granddaughters, Emily Terrell, Carrie McGrath, Elise Terrell, and Sarah McGrath.

He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Zimmerly Terrell, his brother Allen Terrell, and his sister
Mary Terrell Saunders.

A Memorial Visitation will be held at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD on Saturday, August 6, from 1-4 p.m.

Interment will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington, OH.
