Edward Getzen Hobbs

Edward Getzen "Eddie" Hobbs, age 68, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, of 43 years, Debbie Hobbs. 

 Born on January 13, 1956, in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late Edward G. Hobbs, Jr. and Louise F. Hobbs.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Laura (Brian) Niper of Mt. Airy, MD; his beloved grandsons, Damon, Maxwell and Brandon; three sisters, Susan (Rick) Damuth, Sharon (Gary) Whitmore and Catherine (Doug) Topper; one brother, Michael (Stacey) Hobbs; one niece and several nephews; and his father-in-law, Earl Weant. 

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Christopher Edward Hobbs; and mother-in-law, Sylvia Weant. 

Eddie attended Catoctin High School, Class of 1974. Eddie's career, lasting over 50 years, was with his family-owned business, Hobbs Hardware. He and his brother, Michael, owned and operated the family business. 

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish. 

He served on the Board of Commissioners for the Town of Thurmont for 19 years. Eddie was an avid sports fan, who loved the Maryland Terrapins, the Orioles, and the Ravens. Eddie was a former coach for CYA basketball. He cherished spending time with his family and attending his grandson's basketball, baseball and soccer games. 

The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 East Main Street in Thurmont. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the funeral home in Thurmont. Deacon Joseph Wolf will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will be held at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Thurmont.
