Edward Arthur Gravatt

Edward Arthur Gravatt, age 80, of Rocky Ridge, passed away on June 7, 2023, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Edward was born in Wilmington Delaware on October 24, 1942. He graduated from H.C. Conrad High School and attended the University of Delaware. 

After college, he served eight years in the United States Air Force. Edward spent many years in the insurance and retail management industries and recently retired from Emmitsburg Antique Mall. Ed enjoyed outdoor activities, especially boating and fishing; loved woodworking, photography, cooking but most of all spending time with his family.

Edward was very active within the American Legion. He was a Past Post Commander of American Legion Post 168, served as a both a member and Delegate of the Department Executive Committee.

Ed is survived by his wife Lela Summers Gravatt, his daughters Dana Taylor (Joe), Gloria Herren (Bill), Lori Summers and his son Michael Gravatt (Karen). Edward was blessed to have many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Edward was preceded in death by his son, Edward Arthur Gravatt.

The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 East Main St., Thurmont, Maryland 21788 on Tuesday, June 13th from 1:00-3:00 pm with a celebration of his life to begin at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the American Legion Post #168.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion Post #168.
