Edward Fitzgerald

Edward M. "Ed" Fitzgerald, 69, of Fayetteville, Pennsylvania, passed from this life, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg, PA. Ed was the loving husband of Ruthie L. Fitzgerald for 18 years.

Born on August 12, 1949, in Gettysburg, PA, he was the son of the late Edward A. and Ethel Virginia Hurley Fitzgerald.

Ed was a 1969 Graduate of Catoctin High School and a member of FFA. He retired from Michaux Manor after eight years.  He also was mechanic and welder for many years.

Ed was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfield, PA.

Having grown up on his family’s farm, Ed was an avid outdoorsman in all ways; loving nature, bird watching, fishing, hunting, boating, and camping.  He loved all his family, and friends and he particularly enjoyed spending time together with, and teaching, his grandson, Aiden, the proper fishing and hunting techniques.  He also enjoyed front porch sitting with his friends.  He could often be found going out of his way to help others by lending a hand and sharing his knowledge and many practical life lessons and experiences with anyone in need.

Surviving him are three children:  daughters, Samantha Fitzgerald and her companion, Steve Brodbeck, of Biglerville, PA, Kelly Fitzgerald and her companion, Robert Allen, of Fayetteville, PA, and son, Eddie Fitzgerald and wife, Miranda, of Dover, PA. Step children, Angel Yingling and husband, Todd, of Orrtanna, PA, Tresa Sheriff and her husband, John, of Crittenden, Kentucky, Amy Fox and her companion, Tom, of York, PA, Ricky McDannell, Jr. of Orrtanna, PA and Tammy Chilcote of Greencastle, PA.  He is also survived by his sister, Barbara McElroy and husband, Mike, of Harrisburg, PA; his brothers, Patrick of Westminster, MD and John and wife, Deborah, of Thurmont; sister-in-law, Debra, of Urbana, MD; grandchildren, Makayla Kilmer, Caleb Brodbeck, Aiden Fitzgerald, Isabella Fitzgerald, Edward Eli Fitzgerald, Liam Fitzgerald, Amber Rock, Veronica Yingling, Zachary Rock, Ashley Barger, Eric Kuhn , Melanie Fox, Justin Miller, Kurtis Miller, Matthew Strausbaugh, Austin McDannell and Brenden McDannell; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Kevin Fitzgerald; and grandson, Ryan Rock.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 East Main Street in Thurmont, Maryland.

A celebration of Edward's life journey will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Stauffer Funeral Home in Thurmont. Pastor Beverly Donnella will officiate.

Inurnment will be held at a later date.
