Edna Waltz

Edna Virginia (Martz) Waltz, 90, of Smithsburg, Maryland passed from this life on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Meritus Medical Center.

Born in Washington County, Maryland on August 17, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Alvey Verdeen Martz and May Virginia (Gaver) Martz. Her husband, Daniel R. Waltz, preceded her in death in 2004.

She graduated from Hagerstown High School. After high school, she worked for several different companies in Hagerstown. She eventually retired after working about 20 years at Hagerstown Junior College for a vending company.

She was a member of the Beaver Creek Christian Church for her entire life. She was also a member of the Christian Woman's Fellowship at her church and the Loyal Daughters Sunday School Class.

Edna loved to crochet. She enjoyed passing on her talents to her family. She was a loyal fan of the Washington Nationals. She loved spending time with her family, especially her two great-grandchildren. In the summer, she always enjoyed pulling up a chair and watching Mark work in the garden.

She is survived by one son, Mark E. Waltz and his wife Denise of Smithsburg, Maryland; two grandchildren, Timothy M. Waltz and his wife Mindy, and Jennifer D. Reynolds and her husband Joel; two great-grandchildren, Charlie Reynolds and Margaret Waltz, all of Smithsburg, Maryland.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Edna is preceded in death by her brother, Calvin Martz in 1990.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. J. Mark Curran will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at the Beaver Creek Cemetery in Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m, on Monday, May 25, 2015, at the funeral home.
