Edna Torres-Melendez

Edna Torres-Melendez, 67, of Frederick, MD, passed away peacefully at Frederick Memorial Hospital on Monday, April 10th, 2023. Edna is now in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  She is survived by her daughters Gloryanne McGlynn and Gloryvee Bidlack and their families. 

Edna was born on October 22, 1955 in Ponce Puerto Rico, where she grew up with her 7 brothers and sisters. After attending college in Puerto Rico, and joined the United States Army, where she was assigned to Ft. Detrick in Frederick, Maryland. She continued her career as an Army Civilian employee, retiring after over thirty years of service as a Research Chemist at Ft. Detrick. 

Edna loved her Catholic Faith and was active in the Catholic community at Ft. Detrick for many years, as well as the communities at the Visitation Academy and St. John the Evangelist. She led by example, teaching CCD, and volunteering for Church events and the local food bank. 

Second only to her love for her God, was that of her family. She raised her two daughters on her own and loved them tremendously, as she did her five grandchildren, her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and in a special way, her three aunts: Carmen, Lydia and Feliz. 

Edna was an avid baseball fan and loved to dance and party! She was always the first one on the dance floor! She was the eternal optimist, always ready with a smile and encouragement. She suffered through stage four cancer in 2011/2012 and through her strength, overcame it. Never throughout this ordeal did she complain or lose her joy in life! 

Edna will be remembered by so many who’s lives she touched: her wonderful smile, her kind words, her loving ways and her warm joy!

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 14 from 5 to 7 PM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, April 15 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 118 E. 2nd Street, Frederick.  Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
