Mrs. Edna Anderson Altmann, 90, of Frederick, MD,(formerly of Silver Spring), passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Somerford Assisted Living. She was the wife of the late John B. Altmann, III.
Born January 7, 1920 in Washington, D. C., she was the daughter of the late Horace Lee and Maude Gina Tollefsen Anderson.
Mrs. Altmann graduated 1938 from Eastern H.S. in Washington, D. C. She married her husband John on October 19, 1940 at Christ Church in S.E. Washington, D.C. Mrs. Altmann worked for the Treasury Department during WWII, the family owned business Old Colony Laundry, and retired from Manor Country Club. She was a member of the Transfiguration Episcopal Church in Silver Spring, was president of the Altar Guild and the 50+ club. She was president of the Kiwives of Silver Spring from 1965 - 1966. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, knitting, needlework, gardening, Maryland sports and the Redskins.
She is survived by three sons John B. Altmann, IV and wife Cindy of Laurel, Robert L. Altmann and wife Linda of WV and Richard C. Altmann and wife Patti of Frederick, grandchildren Christy Brown and husband Ian of Columbus, OH, Andi Gnuschke and husband Kris of Frederick, Richard C. Altmann, Jr and wife Aubrey of Catonsville, MD, Robb Altmann of Morgantown, WV and Morgan Altmann of Laurel, MD., great grandchildren, Eli and Evan Brown, Carson and Colbie Gnuschke and Ellie and Jack Altmann, a sister Gina Anderson Curtis and a brother Horace "Buddy" Lee Anderson, Jr.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Sunday, November 7, 2010 from 1 - 6:00 p.m. Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will be at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery.
