Edith Mae Skelton Berger, 83, of Walkersville, MD, peacefully entered her eternal home on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at her place of residence. Born on August 24, 1930, in Staunton, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William Hershel Skelton and Nettie May (Sensabaugh) Skelton. Edith was married to the late Clyde M. Berger, Jr. They were married for 52 years. She was preceded in death by five siblings; Mary Skelton Nuckoles, Janet Skelton Karnes, Evelyn "Pete" Skelton Fulwider, William Skelton, and Elizabeth Skelton Keagy. Survived by her brother, Gene Skelton of Bridgewater, Va. and sister-in-law, Dorothy Jenney and husband, Roy, of Laurel, MD.
Edith graduated from North River High School in Mount Solon, VA., class of 1949. She was brought up attending Mossy Creek Presbyterian Church in Mount Solon, Va. After marrying, Mrs. Berger attended and was active in Calvary United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was active in women's ministries.
Edith was a homemaker. Her senior year in high school she was the Home Economics "Queen", winning a trip to Williamsburg, Va. As an adult, she was a member of the Walkersville Homemakers Club. Her hobbies included: baking, cooking, sewing, reading, and spending time in her rose garden. She enjoyed birdwatching and was especially fond of cardinals. Most of all she enjoyed spending quality time with her family.
Surviving are her three children, Clyde M. Berger, III and wife, Ann, of Frederick, MD; Deborah K. Davis and husband, Randy, of Walkersville, MD; and J.Rodney Berger and wife, Cyndi, of Queens, NY.
grandchildren: Joshua Davis and wife, Jessica, of Frederick, MD; Jeremiah Davis of Walkersville, MD; Ali and Ian Berger of Frederick, MD; and Erika and Victoria Berger of Queens, NY. great grandchildren: Elise and Everett Davis of Frederick, MD.
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 4, 2013, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville, MD from 6:00-8:00PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 12:00PM at Grace Community Church, 5102 Old National Pike, Frederick, MD 21702 where the family will be present to receive friends one hour prior to service time. Pastor R. Dallas Greene and Pastor Michael P. Brubaker will officiate.
