Edith Johnson, 83, of New Market Maryland and La Crosse, Kansas, died peacefully on June 13, 2008, at Transitions Healthcare in Sykesville, Maryland.
Edie was born on June 18, 1924 in La Crosse, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Robert C. Wilson and Mabel A. Rankin.
Mrs. Johnson graduated from La Crosse High School in 1942 and attended college in Los Angeles, California. First and foremost she was a homemaker, wife and mother.
Edie worked in her husbands' law firm and in the company she and her husband founded, Flight Line Air Freight in Washington, DC, and later at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland.
Mrs. Johnson moved to a small farm in New Market Maryland in 1999, where she was able to take up her life long dream of learning to horseback ride. Here, Edie was able to spend her retirement years enjoying her greatest passions; her pets, knitting, reading and watching the wildlife around her home.
Survivors include her three children, Jay Johnson of Olathe, Kansas, Denni Johnson of Silver Spring, Maryland and Kristi Johnson of New Market, Maryland; granddaughters, Katie, Andrea and Lindsey Johnson, Kelly Clagett, and Edith Riggs, sister Marilyn Mallory of Colorado, sister-in-laws Gladys Johnson of Ellis, Kansas, Ginger Johnson of Wichita, Kansas, and Gloria Wilson of La Crosse, Kansas.
In addition she is survived by her Border Collie and constant companion, Brie.

Services: A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. on June 29 at 5917 Boyers Mill Rd., New Market, MD.
