Edgar Frank Czarra, Jr., 81, of Adamstown, Maryland and Potomac, Maryland, departed this life peacefully on Monday, November 30, 2009 at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, MD. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 4, 1928 in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Edgar F. and Mary Agnes (Copeland) Czarra.
Mr. Czarra graduated from McKinley High School of Washington, D.C., in 1945. He then attended Yale University, New Haven, CT, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1949. Mr. Czarra continued his formal education at the Yale Law School where he received a Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) degree in 1952. Following law school, Mr. Czarra enlisted in the United States Navy where he earned the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. Mr. Czarra received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy in 1961.
Mr. Czarra had a long and varied career in the field of law including positions at the U.S. District Court, 1954; U.S. Court of Appeals, 1954; and U.S. Supreme Court, 1959; where he successfully litigated many cases. He held the position of Associate with Covington and Burling LLP from 1952-63. He then became a Partner and held that position until his retirement in 1997. His organizational memberships include the American Bar Association, The Washington, D.C. Bar Association, and the Federal Communications Bar Association. He served as the President of the Maryland Polled Hereford Association from 1971-73. Mr. Czarra was also the owner/developer of Little Antietam Farm in Rohrersville, Maryland.
Mr. Czarra is survived by his wife Doris C. (Lane) Czarra of Adamstown, MD whom he married June 14, 1952. He is also survived by his daughter Penelope L. Czarra, of Rohrersville, MD; son, Edgar F. Czarra III and wife Kelli of Thurmont, MD ; son, Jonathan C. Czarra and wife Joan of Centreville, VA; and daughter Melanie A. Czarra-Panek and husband Edward of London, UK. Mr. Czarra is also survived by his six adoring grandchildren; Erin E. Czarra of Knoxville, TN; Lindsey A. Czarra of Centreville, VA; Edward S. Panek and Sarah L. Panek, of London, UK; and Natalie L. Czarra and Caroline T. Czarra of Thurmont, MD.
A private burial service was held on December 4, 2009 at the Boonsboro Cemetery "in the valley he loved so much."
