Mr. Earl J. Merwin, Jr., 83 of Thurmont, MD (formerly of Timonium, MD), died Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Katherine Lahm Merwin, his wife of 62 years.
Born April 9, 1924, in Orange, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Earl J. Sr. and Elsie (Sterner) Merwin.
Mr. Merwin served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a member of the Boumi Temple, the VFW in Timonium, the American Chemical Society, the Institute of Food Technologists, and a founding member of the Society of Flavor Chemist. Earl was a Flavor Chemist for McCormicks in Baltimore.
In addition to his wife he is survived by five children, Lawrence J. Merwin of Jupitor, FL., Jean Lantz of Epping, NH., Barbara Hohman of Thurmont, MD., Claudia Merwin of Harrisburg, PA. and Thomas Merwin of Ashburn, VA. Ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and his brother, Albert Merwin of Georgia also survive him. He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Fiala, and his brother, Walter Merwin.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, MD on Sunday, July 29, from 7 until 9 p.m.
Services: Services will be held at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, Md. on Monday, July 30, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Les Simms officiating. Interment will follow in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, Timonuim, MD.
